Spring in Melbourne

Walking through the dusky streets,
I breathe in the scent of the evening.
A boronia bush in a front yard sends out a sweet aroma,
Teasing my nose,
Roses peeking through a fence provoke me to draw a deep breath,
The heady scent relaxing me further.
Pine trees line the street,
and the moist evening air smells of Christmas,
Speaking to me of sun, warmth, laughter and love,
reminding me that summer is near.
I dawdle on my walk home,
In no rush to end my enjoyment of the smells and sounds,
The scents and sensations
of a Melbourne spring evening.

It’s not that the truth is not known, it’s that some people reach a state of mind blindness, where the truth is not seen even though it’s staring them right in the face. You know that God works miracles every day in the emergency rooms, but healthcare across the board is a disaster. The immune system is God’s gift of healing to us. Have you ever asked yourself, why your intestines are so long? It seems like they would only have to be about a foot long. If you’ve ever cracked your ribs you would know, the doctor doesn’t have to perform surgery, there’s no pill to heal your bones, no cast, no brace, just time for your body to heal itself. Your cells go to work manufacturing new bone cells to replace the damaged, not working bone cells to heal your body. The healthier you are as an individual, the quicker your body can perform this function. Nutrition therefore would seem to be vital. However, billons of dollars spent each year on organic foods and supplements, doesn’t seem to be working that well. Don’t get me wrong, organic is good. It means no pesticides but, it does not mean vine ripened. With the thousands of dietary supplements, and the always new super fruits, super herbs, super berries or super whatever, it would seem that the people who own or work at these health food stores would be the healthiest people in the world. Obviously that’s not the case. It stands to reason something is missing, and that something is knowledge. The reality is that there is no single bush, plant, root, herb or berry on the planet that has all of the nutritional requirements in the different categories that your body requires. Many of these things may be beneficial, but are they truly vital? The body doesn’t care: how, what, why, when or where something went wrong, it just has to deal with it! The body is programmed for wellness. It does not suddenly forget how to work and then develop problems. Every single day our 60 trillion cells need to: maintain, regulate, repair and protect, and the body builds billons of new cells every day. But it requires specific nutrients to enable it to do that, vitamins and minerals antioxidants, glyconutrients, plant sterols and essential fatty acids support the immune system. You wouldn’t attempt to take a long trip in your car without sufficient gas, oil, and water would you? I don’t know about you but I would rather “stay well” than “get well”. Gardeners have always known that the health of living things is dependant on the nutrients they consume. Plants thrive in nutrient-rich soil and waste away in depleted soil. Washington is doing a lot of talking about health insurance, but the reality is health insurance doesn’t insure health.
